At Barnes Farm Primary School we recognise the importance of play and believe that all children need opportunities to play that allow them to explore, manipulate and experience their environment.

We believe play provision should be welcoming and accessible to every child. We are fortunate to have extensive outdoor space within our school grounds and have been implementing the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Programme since February 2024. Our commitment to including play in our curriculum aligns with our Behaviour and Relationships Policy to ensure that children continually build on positive relationships with peers and adults but also transfer to their relationships at home. We have a dedicated Play team who supervise the children outside, looking carefully at promoting independence and creative play.

Through providing a rich play offer, meeting every child’s needs, we will ensure all children, regardless of age, gender, race, disability or other special needs, can develop and thrive, build strong relationships and enjoy school.
